"I'll be right back!" Mary Lou called as she ran out the door. It was cool outside as the clock was just changing to eight o' clock.
As she ran along the familiar road she heard a cry. It almost sounded like a cry of pain. Mary walked quietly up to the house where she heard the noise. Breathing in courage, she knocked on the door. Hearing nothing, she went inside.
"Hello?" she called out. No one answered. Going into the kitchen, she saw a man leaning up against the counter. His eyes were closed, almost as if he was unconscious.
Mary got water from the sink and gently poured some over his face. His eyes slowly opened. He gasped something to Mary, which she couldn't understand.

Uh, oh. I have a feeling whatever he gasped was pretty important. I hope she figures out what he said! Good job setting up mystery, Sydney. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my! That's definitely alarming!
