The Eat the Elephant Writing Challenge

I was talking on the phone with my sister, Kate, and she told me she and my brother, Paul, thought up a writing challenge for themselves. They each want to write 100 pages during the month of August. They call it the "Eat the Elephant Challenge" because when a younger sister said she could never write 100 pages, they told her just to write 3 pages a day: "You know, like eating an elephant one bite at a time."*

I thought, "Now there's a writing challenge I might be able to keep up on!" (Unlike my goal of 2,000 words a day when I attempted Camp NaNoWriMo last year.) It's really simple, and it leaves room in the schedule for taking Sundays off and for catching up if you fall behind. I would LOVE to have 100 pages of something either hand-written or typed by the end of August!

I guess I'd better get to it, if I'm going to fit 3 pages in today. So, without rambling any further here on the blog, here's a handy printable progress sheet if you want to join us!

*Comes from the saying, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."

  2. This is such a fun idea and it's just what I need to get rid of my summer writing laziness!I have kind of gotten out of the habit of writing everyday. And this is actually doable. I mean, who can't write 3 pages a day? Awesome! This is gonna be fun!
