"Essays and Huge Favors"

Jenny sat down at her computer and stared at the screen.  She was supposed to be writing a 1000 word essay, but her mind, as usual went blank.
"Why can't I ever think of a plot, when I need one?" she complained to herself.
The phone started to ring, and, thankful for an excuse to set her schoolwork aside, she jumped up to answer it.
"Hello?"
"Hi Jenny, it's Laura.  I have a huge favor to ask you."
Delight flooded Jenny.  Since they were 11 she and Laura had been close friends.  They had met in a homeschool group in Alaska.  Now they were almost 20 and lived several thousand miles apart.  But their friendship had withstood time, distance, and the hardships of growing up.  They joked that someday, when they were old maids, they would live together and have a canary named Peeve, another named Jeeves, and two cats, Butane and Citronella.

  1. Wow, too realistic! ;) It's comforting to know even fictional characters can have writer's block. But what can the huge favor be??!! Will we ever know??? The suspense...

What interesting pet names... my little sister wants to name a kitten Jolo. In a story I am writing right now, one of the cows is named Honeysuckle and another is named Rigamarole. I like unusual names. ;)

  3. Real life is the best prompt :)
Probably no one will ever know the favor, because I don't write straight fiction.
    I love unusual pet names!
