Paperback Giveaway: "The Shadow Things"

This giveaway is over, and according to Random.org, the winner is... Aubrey H.! Congrats!

"The Legions have left the province of Britain and the Western Roman Empire has dissolved into chaos. With the world plunged into darkness, paganism and superstition are as rampant as ever. In the Down country of southern Britain, young Indi has grown up knowing nothing more than his gods of horses and thunder: so when a man from across the sea comes preaching a single God slain on a cross, Indi must choose between his gods or the one God - and face the consequences of his decision." (Description from the back cover)

This book's description fascinated me so much, I could not wait to review it! I am a bit of a history nut and a bit of an all-things-Celtic nut, and am also a fan of C.S. Lewis, so there was no doubt I was going to love this book. I was immediately drawn into the story by the quality of the writing, the rich descriptions, and realistic characters. The story follows Indi, the chieftan's son, as he comes to grips with the truth about his pagan religion and about the man on a Roman cross. Though it may cost him all, he exhibits amazing steadfastness and Christ-likeness under degrading trials as a slave and outcast. By the dramatic and bitter-sweet ending, I found Indi had become my hero, friend, and a great encouragement to live for Christ. I highly recommend this book for adults and mature high-school readers. Read a sample of the beginning here(This book is not for the younger reader due to some violence, adult themes, and accurate depiction of the demonic nature of pagan religion.)
