"Braving the Blizzard"

Together, the two bundled figures stumbled through the deep snow, their feet sinking with each step. The driving snow blew in their faces, making it almost impossible to see.
"It's getting worse!" the taller one shouted to be heard through his thick scarf.
"How many more steps?" the other asked in a weary voice.
"Ten yards. Here, hold my onto my arm," the boy offered. The purple mittened hand grabbed hold of his coat sleeve and gripped it tightly. Every minute felt like hours and they were quiet with the concentration of walking toward their goal.
The girl bumped into something hard and exclaimed with relief, "We made it!"
"This far. Let's just hope it starts!" He pulled on the door of the small airplane, using all his strength to break the ice that held the door shut. It opened with a jerk, sending him tumbling backward into the snow.

  1. Okay, this one is an interesting piece. It makes me wonder in both directions. As usual, I wonder what will happen, but I also wonder what has been happening. I want to know more of the back story--why they're out there, what they've been doing!

  2. Agreeing with Perry. I'm guessing they must be in a place like Alaska...

Ignorant me... my airplane-savvy brother now tells me that pilots avoid flying in storms since the ice on the wings would make it impossible to fly. So even if it did start, they wouldn't get anywhere. Oh well, it was fun.

  4. Are they brother and sister?? Did they go down over the North Pole?
